About Speaking Clock

"The Speaking Clock project started in 1998, when I developed a simple speaking clock program just for fun. It was very basic, and it's main feature was that it could tell the time in Swedish. My wife then came up with the great idea of adding more languages (probably because she is very interested in languauges, beeing a language teacher by education). I added a few more languages (English and Russian), using the voice of my wife. The result was good, so I also added a graphical display and an alarm option and submitted it to a few software sites (as freeware).

The one thing that made the clock different from other speaking clocks was the invitation to users to submit their own voice. I received a very strong feedback, and received emails from all over the world. Today over 30 different languauges - something I could never imagine back in 1998.

The software and all languages are freely available, as they are a symbol of how the internet can bring people and languages together, despite the distances and differences."
