How to use MS Agents with Speaking Clock Deluxe

>>THIS INFO IS FOR SPEAKING CLOCK DELUXE ONLY, WHICH IS NO LONGER DEVELOPED<<

Note: These instructions assumes you have already installed agent support.

Enable agents
First of all, if you recently installed agent support, make sure you restart the clock. Then open the settings dialog, and choose the Agents tab. Click the "Enable agents" checkbox and then choose a character.

What can agents do?
You can assign agents to tell you the time (with a quote, if you like). If you open the settings dialog, you will see that you have some new options on the "Announce" tab.

Agents can also act as your alarm alerter. If you open the Alarm settiings dialog, a new option for the Alarm alert mode is available.

You can also manually call for the agent, by either double-clicking on the agents icon (agents usually have their own icon in the system tray) or choosing "Show agent" from teh clock's popup menu (accessed by right-clicking the clock display).

Agent handling
Agent handling is usually controlled by the clock, meaning the agent will pop up on your screen to tell you the time or notify you of alarm events. The agent will usually disappear after it performed its task, although you can choose to keep the agent on your screen after alarm notifications (which can be a good indication that something has happened in case you left your computer for a while). See the "Agent" tab in the Settings dialog.

When the agent is visible, you can right-click it to access some additional functions:

  • Hide – Hides the agent, using an animation if enabled in the settings.
  • Say the time – the agent will say the current time.
  • Repeat last alert – the agent will repeat the last alarm alert message. This function is disabled if no alarm event has occurred.
  • Say a quote – the agent will tell you a quote.
  • Shut up and hide – this will immediately close the agent, even if it’s talking.

The clock saves the position where the agent last appeared, so if you want your agent to always appear in a certain spot, open your agent, move it to the selected spot and then hide it.
